Climbing in Clear Creek Canyon

cccanyonColorado’s front range has so many climbing areas. Enough to make a visiting climber’s head spin when they have only a few days to sample them. One of these many areas is Clear Creek Canyon, home to hundreds of routes (mostly sport) on varying gneiss, schist and granite.

We were only able to spend a day in Clear Creek but the climbing was fun, very accessible (5 min approach for us lazies) and the weather was great in mid-June. While we only visited a few walls in Clear Creek, it looks like there is something here for everyone in terms of route style and difficulty.

Clear Creek is covered in the Rock Climbing Colorado Falcon Guide and the sport climbs are also covered in a somewhat dated (1999) area specific guide.

You pass through Golden, CO to get there which is home to the Coors Brewery so you can plan your day around a little après beer tour and tasting if you are inclined.
