Fixie Fest Bangkok

IMG_3866 Hipsters are awesome. This we already knew. Fixie hipsters are even better. Again, old news. But did you know that hipsters in Bangkok look exactly like the hipsters in San Francisco? Neither did we.

During our visit to Bangkok’s weekend market Kyle noticed a sign for a fixed gear bike festival and competition taking place right next to one of Bangkok’s infamous malls. Starved for a little bike culture we knew we had to check it out. A short skytrain ride later and we were elbows deep in fixie fun and enough bike porn to last us until we rendezvous with our tandem in June.

The festival had drag races, finished off, of course, by a number of gnarly crashes; a bike show where competitors lined up their prettiest two wheel creations and judges voted which was the best; and the main event and highlight, a trick competition.

Kyle and I grabbed a Leo and settled in. I found endless entertainment oogling the pretty bikes and took way too many pictures. You can enjoy some of them below.
